VIDTXT Auckland, Central Districts broke sixes world record

The fans watching this game must have had their eyes up all the time. They all would have been watching the ball keenly so that they get aside from another hit travelling at them. Yup both the teams playing this game made sure that the ball stays off the field all the time.

New Zealand is hosting its premium T20 tournament, George Pie Super Smash. Auckland faced Central Districts in their pool match and at the start nobody knew that they all will leave making a world record.

Auckland batted first after winning the toss. The openers did a decent job with the bat. Rawal made 36 in which he belted 3 sixes while Cachopa went off after making 25. He only hit one maximum.

After Nicol was cleaned up early, Munro and Grandhomme took the charge and the two devastated the Central Districts bowling line up.

Munro hit a massive 96 runs innings. He hit 6 fours and 7 sixes. Grandhomme did a supporting job with his 49. He smoked 5 sixes in his innings and finished not out. Auckland piled up a huge total of 217.

In reply the start was disastrous for Central Districts. Worker went early and Young came to the crease. 22 year old Young played the innings of his life. His 96 of 50 balls almost snatched the game away from Auckland.

Young hit 7 sixes in his innings and all of them were long and huge. However the other batsmen failed to give him any support except Bruce. At the end Central lost the game by 10 runs.

A total of 31 sixes were hit in this game which now is the new world record in T20 format. Before this game, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals held the record to their name with 30 sixes. Same number of sixes (30) was hit in a T20 game between Ireland and Holland in 2014 T20 world cup.
