Those who have watched cricket over the years must have baffled listening to the term Flamingo Back Defense or FBD. There was no such term in cricket before the last day at Gabba, Brisbane where New Zealand’s Trent Boult invented this defense shot.
The kiwi fast bowler was either in a funny mood while playing this defensive shot or from now onwards we might see him playing it now onwards. Boult first played this shot against Starc.
Boult moved outside his off stump to counter a length ball from Starc. The moment the ball reached near his bat, Boult lifted his left leg brought it straight back behind his bat and played a defensive shot.

The ball hit his bat but the way he was standing with his leg up in the air was something so hilarious that Australian captain Steven Smith was unable to hold his laugh. Australian commentators in box including Mark Nicholas had their laughs bursting out a well.Nicholas then termed this shot the Flamingo Back Defense shot. Boult played it twice. The second time he played it against was Hazelwood. The fast bowler again like Starc bowled a length ball and again Boult did the same.
He lifted his left leg and put it right behind the bat while hitting the ball. It looked like as if he was giving his bat a back support.
New Zealand might have lost the match but they now surely have something to highlight. A new shot in cricket has been invented.
